Ambassadors, members of the London Diplomatic Corps, MPs and business leaders gathered on the 4th of February at the In & Out Naval and Military Club for the traditional St. Agatha Day celebration hosted by the Consul of San Marino in UK Maurizio Bragagni.
Saint Agatha, co-patron of San Marino, is honored annually, marking the day Pope Clement XII reaffirmed San Marino’s sovereignty in 1740.
During the evening there was the conferment of the Order of St. Agatha (which honors individuals who make outstanding contributions in humanitarian, artistic, political, or military fields) upon Prof. Pasquale Urselli.
This year, a special award was also introduced to recognize organizations “promoting San Marino’s values and international presence”. The inaugural recipients included the Consulate General of Italy, the University of Greater Manchester and the philanthropists Lubov Chernukhin and Joe Ricotta. Among the guests was Francesco Mussoni, former Captain Regent of San Marino, who the day after was awarded the Freedom of the City of London in a special Guildhall ceremony.
